We had the opportunity to visit China this spring to gather inspiration and take part in their long experience of being leaders in the art world.

They have a rich and ancient tradition of sculpture, with a history spanning thousands of years. This tradition reflects the country’s deep cultural, religious and philosophical heritage and has produced some of the world’s most iconic and influential works of art.

In modern times, Chinese sculpture has evolved to include a mix of traditional forms and contemporary influences. Chinese sculptors have historically used a variety of materials, including jade, bronze, wood, stone, and ceramics. Each material required different techniques and was often associated with specific types of sculpture. Carving, molding and casting are the primary techniques used in Chinese sculpture. The level of detail and craftsmanship in traditional Chinese sculpture is often astonishing, with some works taking years to complete.

China’s long and continuous history of sculpture is a testament to its cultural richness and artistic innovation. From the ancient bronzes to modern works, Chinese sculpture has always been an important expression of the country’s identity and values.
